Lately, we have completed a residential interior for an India-based client. The bungalow had a generous footprint and required spacious interior planning. The design brief was extensive with living rooms, bedrooms, kitchen, and informal spaces mentioned. The client’s expectation with the interior design style was modern and elitist.

Here, our design challenge was to provide for a clutter-free design that speaks of opulence. We took inspiration from Western-style interiors and provided a design solution by creating free- flowing spaces, pastel color schemes with pops of color, extensive use of light, non-bulky furniture, and tranquil sculptures.

Painting three walls of a room with pastel shades and accenting one wall using texture. This addition of texture was in the form of wallpaper, texture paint, and cladding.

Since the moodboard of the house was muted, we ushered in some vibrance. We did this in the form of bright-colored and patterned upholstery. But, we made sure that the color was not overdone, in order to maintain the Western-style look.

The verticality of full-height windows had been distributed by providing horizontal blinds.

The west coast of India is overwhelmed with Portuguese and Victorian-style buildings. Their design elements, features, and materials are all very adorable. Here are some ways in which both the architecture styles are different and unique in their own way.

1. Origin

Victorian-style architecture originated in England. It has been globally adopted with the blend of local materials and design style.
